It is rarely beneficial to give up on a task too soon. There will be times, of course, when you conclude that it is useless to continue doing something. In those cases it would be wise to cut your losses and quit wasting time.

However, you will often reap huge rewards by sticking to your goals. There are numerous examples of authors sending in manuscripts and being rejected by dozens of publishers before finally getting it accepted. There are other examples of entrepreneurs failing for many years before finally becoming successful. They may have used a number of skills and qualities during the struggling years. The most important thing though is they did not quit.

You have likely never seen Albert Einstein quoted in an article about online business success but here we go…

It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.  -Albert Einstein

There are so many qualities and skills needed to succeed online that none of us can master them all. So the key involves 1) taking advantage of your strengths and 2) keep improving in your weaker areas. Even when you are doing extremely well, there will be challenges and disappointments in some aspects of your online business.

There are at least five things that may help when you are feeling discouraged:

1. Give yourself a pat on the back or some reward when you reach short term goals. It is very easy to concentrate too much on long term goals. This may cause you to ignore the joy and satisfaction that should come from smaller accomplishments.

2. Take a few moments and write down the main reasons you decided to start an online business. This simple step should help you concentrate on the positive aspects of your business. It may even help you to appreciate benefits that you originally had not thought about when you first started working online.

3. Be careful not to isolate yourself. I can work for hours at the computer in my own little world. For some interaction with other marketers I like to pop in now and then to the Warrior Forum. It is inspiring to read a post from a member that just made their first $100 online. It makes you feel good to offer some input to a member that needs help in some area. I also find great suggestions dealing with some aspect of internet marketing where I have hit a standstill. The point is to find a diversion and interact with some real humans. Visit a forum, call someone on the telephone, or go visit a friend. Spending a little time with other people can be a great way to be recharged.

4. Take a vacation. When I worked in the corporate world I never missed a chance to get away and rejuvenate. Now that I work for myself, and I love what I do, I need reminders to take some time off. Even just a weekend getaway can do a lot to revive a person.

5. Try listening to motivational audio recordings. This can be done even while you are working. I have friends that listen to motivational recordings almost every day. This does not always work for everyone. You might at least give it a try. Sometimes it can really lift your spirits just to hear a positive voice.

Staying motivated and perseverence are often the keys to the success of your online business. Hopefully some of these suggestions will help when you are experiencing problems or roadblocks. Trying to make money online rarely goes smoothly. Stay motivated and keep working through the challenges. By doing this you will experience joy and will succeed in your online business.
