It is easy to think that you are the only one responsible for the success or failure of your online business. It is very common when people first begin their attempts to succeed online that they have faulty ideas on the fastest way to profit. It starts with the false notion that they will make more money by doing everything themselves. This has actually stifled and eventually ruined many online businesses.
To correct that thinking we should start with a quote from the late fast food king who said;
“You’re only as good as the people you hire.” Ray Kroc
When Ray Kroc bought out the first handful of McDonalds he already had big goals. They had originally been owned by two brothers that thought it would be foolish to start any new ones. They thought it would be safer and better financially to just keep running the ones they first started. There is some interesting history about the early negotiations and eventual sale of the McDonalds to Ray Kroc. Nevertheless, for the sake of our discussion, you know about the financial empire that he eventually built.
Do you think Ray Kroc would have ever succeeded like he did if he thought he had to do everything himself? Imagine what would have happened to his franchises if he felt the need to do all the bookkeeping, maintenance, cooking, ordering, stocking, hiring, scheduling, cashiering, and so on. There is no way that one person could even handle ONE fast food restaurant with that kind of thinking.
The same is true with any online business. A lot will depend, of course, on the type of online business you have. In every case, though, there is a need to pay for good skilled help if you want to succeed.
There are various ways to pay for assistance. It could mean outsourcing some work to a freelancer or a company that specializes in what you require. You could hire a virtual assistant in another country. In some cases it may be best to hire employees to actually physically work alongside you. Sometimes you can find software to automate some of your daily tasks to speed up the work. The software may be a one-time expense or it might involve a monthly fee.
It is important not to look at these as wasted expenses. If you wisely choose whom and how to pay for these services, it could actually boost your overall profits. If you can get the more routine or time consuming things done for you it may help you concentrate on your strengths. I know several people that gladly pay for advertising because it almost always brings in a higher return than their costs. In that case it would be foolish NOT to pay for advertising. The same can be said about many other products and services. If it saves you time and/or money it could be a great choice.
Does it make sense to take several days to do something that a qualified programmer can do in a few hours? Do you really want to spend days keeping up with the latest tax and legal matters or simply pay for some expert advice? Everyone will make different choices but it is not realistic to think you can do everything.
Unfortunately, I know a few people that are not doing any better online than they were five or six years ago. That is fine for those that just want a little extra spending money. However, if you are serious about an online business you must consider getting the best help you can as soon as you can. Just starting out you may need to do almost everything yourself because of budget limitations. That can actually be a good way to learn lots of different skills. It is not good long term, though, because it severely limits your ability to grow or as some call it – “scale up.”
Some of the most successful Internet marketers I know pay to have for virtually everything done for them. Several of them are highly skilled in areas that they still contract others to handle. They have found that their business does better if they oversee or manage rather than trying to do everything hands on themselves.
In summary, don’t be afraid to spend money to get some good, qualified help. Very often contracting out some work or buying some helpful software can speed up or improve your success. It is important to stick to a budget, but it is also vital to find ways to keep progressing forward.
